1.Public lavatory意為“公廁”， 在公共場所，廁所門上都標(biāo)有Gent’s(男廁)，或Ladies’(女廁)，有時(shí)也標(biāo)有Men’s, Men’s room, Gentleman’s, Women’s Women’s room.如：Where is the Gent’s?(廁所在哪兒?)If you would like a wash, the Gentleman’s is just over there.(如果要上廁所，男廁就在那邊。)
2.toilet是最常用的一個(gè)詞。可指“公廁”，也可指“私廁”。例如：I wonder where the toilet is.(我想知道廁所在哪兒。)
3.lavatory是個(gè)客氣的詞，但不如toilet常用。
4.bathroom是書面語。
5.loo是一個(gè)口語詞，在英國用得很普通，主要指私人住宅中的廁所。如：Excuse me, would you like to tell me where the loo is?(請問，廁所在哪兒?)
6.powder room是美語，女士常用。如：I would like to powder my nose.就表現(xiàn)了美國人的幽默。
